Job Summary

The Head of Accounting and Valuations will be a conducting officer alongside the Managing Director of fts global’s client and the officer responsible for administration organisation and accounting.


The Head of Accounting and Valuations reports to the Board and is responsible for a full range of activities, which ensure the operational effectiveness and assigned client deliverables.  This role will be responsible for the provision of accounting and valuation for a group of highly complex investment funds including portfolio valuation and Net Asset Value (“NAV”) calculation; assisting with the preparation of financial statements; liaising with investors and investment managers as well as assisting with systems development and other ad hoc projects as required.  In addition, other responsibilities will include client relationship management; new business integration and meeting the very tight reporting deadlines and demanding obligations of our clients.

Essential Functions

A. Leadership

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization

  • Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization


B. NAV Calculation

  • review and understand the fund’s offering memorandum and verify that offering memorandum agrees to fund set up and ensure ongoing operations adhere to offering memorandum details;

  • liaise with investment managers, prime brokers and custodians in relation to trading activity as required for transaction processing and NAV preparation;

  • calculate the NAV for a portfolio of complex investment funds on either a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly basis as specified by the client and as outlined in the administration agreement, which includes, among other things:

  • track all cash items whether portfolio related, capital transactions or from non-portfolio and other income and expense items;

  • perform three-way reconciliation of cash and assets/liabilities to the investment managers and custodians (frequency depending on trading activity of the fund;

  • obtain independent third party pricing support where needed

  • calculate recurring fees as set out in various agreements (i.e. management & administration fee agreements);

  • review and validate the partner/shareholder allocation calculations, including management and incentive fee calculations and the allocation of feeder specific income and expenses.

  • calculate and send out Estimated and Final NAV as required.


C. Other Responsibilities

  • prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports;

  • complete audit confirmation requests;

  • respond to Investor due diligence requests;

  • liaise with the fund’s auditors at year end and interim periods to ensure sufficient information is provided to facilitate the timely completion of controls testing and substantive work to the auditors satisfaction;

  • process fees and expenses on behalf of the clients as directed by Administration Agreement and wire funds to third party service providers such as lawyers and auditors;

  • performance of general administration relating to client funds;

  • participate in special projects;

  • acquire or assist in new business conversions and reconciliation;

  • other duties as required.


This role will be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the administration and finance functions of the fts global client; including:

  • preparation of the monthly management and financial accounts;

  • preparation of the annual and semi-annual (if any) accounts;

  • ensuring both the accounts and the client money reporting procedures are monitored to reflect regulatory or legal changes;

  • manage the internal assessment function;

  • control and reconciliation of fts global’s client bank accounts;

  • reporting to outside audit tax advisers as required.


The Head of Accounting and Valuation will also undertake the following duties:

  • maintain and develop organizational culture, values and reputation with staff, clients and business partners;

  • implement marketing strategies to assist in the acquisition of new business and facilitate fostering existing client relationships;

  • assist in growing the Luxembourg based business;

  • assist with recruiting qualified staff for Accounting and Valuations;

  • coordinate and review on an ongoing basis that the activities of Fund Accounting are proceeding in accordance with the policies and procedures of fts global’s client;

  • overseeing the share register database to ensure all activity is completed on an accurate and timely basis and that all outstanding items are reconciled; and

  • providing periodic reports and feedback to senior management on a multitude of fund accounting topics, client issues and department initiatives.

  • inputting of all portfolio trading activity;

  • inputting of corporate actions and related information;

  • inputting of shareholder activity;

  • inputting of expenses, payments, accruals and sundry adjustments;

  • manual pricing of securities, as required;

  • pricing of portfolio using secondary pricing source;

  • reviewing and clearing of all exception reports and queries;

  • completing of investment checklists;

  • reconciling of administration records with custody and shareholder records and resolution of all differences arising;

  • preparing, reviewing and approval of the dealing NAV;


The Head of Accounting and Valuations will have responsibility for monitoring the fts global’s client capital levels and will do so by receiving reports from the bank in respect of the account details on a monthly basis

Job Qualifications

  • At a minimum this position requires a professional public accounting qualification

  • 10+ years’ experience in a similar or combined role working with complex securities and derivative products

  • Extensive level of expertise and technical knowledge of alternative investment products, operations and the offshore financial services industry, primarily in the Luxembourg jurisdiction, including systems technology, valuation, accounting, share transfer and registration, prime brokerage, financing and custody
